Well, it was a big Sunday Night. Did you watch live or were you tempted to abandon the owls of Twin Peaks for the Dragons of Westeros? We were dedicated. Chris and Scott watched live and recorded our discussion before switching the channel to HBO.

There was a lot of violence tonight and some enigmatic words from our dear Log Lady. Let’s jump right in.

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 42 - Let’s Think Out Loud

After the holiday break, Scott and Christopher return for Part 9! There are a lot of fresh plot details following the very psychedelic part 8 and we dive right in and discuss them. There are a few fun but brief character scenes with old friends like Lucy and Andy as well as Ben and Jerry.

Also returning this episode is Bill Hastings played by Matthew Lillard. It is a very dramatic scene where we learn more about “The Zone” and why Major Briggs’ body may have not aged in 25 years. Scott mistakes Ruth Davenport for Rugh Dunbar from the 80’s TV Show Bosom Buddies. We notice other antiquated references in the episode like the Marbles discussion and we even add a few of our own including the Kick The Can episode of Twilight Zone and the childhood knife game Mumblety-peg.

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 41 - Got a light?

Wow! What an episode! Part 8 of Twin Peaks: The return was Mindblowing! Christopher and Scott dive into the most psychedelic episode so far! Was that the origin of Killer Bob? Also, the Eraserhead comparisons must be made. If you haven’t watched David Lynch’s first film, you should (and we suggest supplementing that with our WKLP episode as well).

It’s been over 25 years that fans have waited for the revelation in Part 6 of Twin Peaks: The return! The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 38 - Off in dreamland again

It was a long wait for Twin Peaks: The Return part 5. We meet a lot of new people this time out including Sheriff Frank Truman’s wife Doris and she has a lot to say. Unfortunately, our good Special Agent Dale Cooper doesn’t. He’s still struggling along. We hope he gets back to his old self soon! We meet Shelly’s daughter Becky, her loser boyfriend Steven, and a young man named Richard that we assume is Audrey’s son (but that is speculation on our part). Speaking of speculation, there is plenty of that going on as Scott and Chris breakdown the episode and talk it out.

Are you developing your own theories? We want to hear them and as always, thank you for listening. The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 36 - The Absurd Mystery of the Strange Forces of Existence

Chris and Scott discuss part 3 of Twin Peaks: the Return. The episode was available on demand right after the two hour season premiere and we made it through 3 episodes and recorded 3 podcasts. Numbers seem to be important in season 3. Whether you watched all 4 episodes last sunday or you are watching them as they air on Sunday nights, we hope you enjoy our discussion and will join in. We’d love to hear your thoughts and theories. Check out our contact information below.

Also, this episode specifically has a lot of imagery that is reminiscent of Eraserhead, which we just watched and discussed. It is a strange film and a must see for every Lynch fan. If you have some time waiting for the episodes to air Sunday, check out the Eraserhead episode of the Who Killed Laura Podcast. The similarities in Twin Peaks: the Return to Lynch's earlier work suggest that many themes and images are very meaningful to him and he can keep exploring them in different situations and with better technological abilities.

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 34 - It has to do with your heritage

It’s happening again! After 25 years, we can finally go back to Twin Peaks with the Return Part 1 on Showtime. Scott and Chris are excited to dive into the new episodes and learn the fate of our favorite characters and maybe finally get some answers to some lingering questions.

Even though Showtime aired the first two episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return as a 2 hour season premiere, we decided to break them up into individual episodes of the Who Killed Laura Podcast. The first 4 episodes were available shortly after the premiere and we will release our corresponding podcasts as soon as we can record and edit them.

There is a lot to talk about but before we jump in, you may want to check out the Eraserhead episode of the Who Killed Laura Podcast because we noticed a lot of similarities to Lynch's earlier work. There are many themes and images that seem to persistently show up in his work.

Thank you for listening and please become a part of the podcast by subscribing and reviewing on iTunes as well as sharing the link below with your friends and fellow Twin Peaks fans. The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 31 - It struck me as funny!

Welcome back to the Who Killed Laura Podcast, where, ideally, Scott and Chris open your eyes to the world of Twin Peaks with stunning insights and humor, but probably more often they ramble, forget character names and actors and struggle to string together sentences.

This time out we talk about the “Missing Pieces” from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, the 90 minutes or so of scenes that were either edited or replaced in the released film, or deleted scenes that never made it in, including more with David Bowie’s Agent Jefferies, more with the Palmer family, glimpses of nearly everyone from the series, and arguably a more satisfying ending. It’s fair to say if you haven’t seen these scenes, you haven’t quite seen the film, although don’t expect too many answers.

We want to hear from our listeners and now we can literally HEAR from you. We have a phone number where you can leave a message for us. It’s 707-800-WKLP. Call us! You can also still connect with us on all our social media:

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 30 - Goddamn, these people are confusing!

We’re proud to announce our latest episode is available for your listening Lynch-directed, Robert Engels and Lynch co-written film that served as a prequel to the Twin Peaks television series, recounting the final days in Laura Palmer’s life as well as filling in how Agent Dale Cooper and the FBI first became involved, due to the mysterious disappearance of Teresa Banks.

Scott and Chris discuss the entire film (as released) in this extra-length episode, from the expected greatness of Ray Wise to Sheryl Lee finally show how good she can be, driving home that at its heart, Twin Peaks is as much about horrible, all-too-real abuse as it is other dimensions, quirky characters, coffee or pie. The film answers longstanding questions as it raises more, like what does David Bowie’s Agent Jeffrey’s have to do with everything, and how did Bobby Briggs get away with murder?

We hope you enjoy the episode and let us know what you think. As you may now know, we’ve got a few months between now and the premiere of the Showtime Twin Peaks series, so we’ll be filling that time looking at the “Missing Pieces” (deleted or extended scenes from the film), more recent cast interviews from the Blu-ray box set, Mark Frost’s Secret History of Twin Peaks: A Novel, and more.

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 29 - I’ll see you again in 25 years

Welcome back to the Who Killed Laura Podcast with Scott and Chris. Happy New Year, and as the first bit of writing for 2017, it might be a good time to reflect on a 2016 filled with more loss than usual, at least for those of us who grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, or who, you know, felt like half the country went insane, give or take a few million voters. And while this year will certainly bring its challenges, at least we came to the conclusion of a rewarding series of podcasts covering the original Twin Peaks series and, once we discuss Fire Walk With Me and some other Peaks goodness, will have the long-awaited new David Lynch-directed Showtime episodes to experience.

This episode, “Beyond Life and Death,” is directed by David Lynch, last seen for Episode 14′s “Lonely Souls,” and was written by co-creator Mark Frost along with Harley Peyton and Robert Engels, who had taken a larger role in season two when Frost was busy preparing is film, Storyville. However, as Lynch told them, he would be ignoring a lot of the script as he kept conceiving and filming scene after scene for the hallucinatory Black Lodge section of the episode. We’ll discuss more of the shifting roles and alliances when we get into the Lynch/Engels-written TP:FWWM.

Agent Cooper’s following Windom Earle into the Black Lodge to stop him and save Annie takes up much of the episode, but there’s also Dr. Heyward finally striking back at Ben Horne for his misguided honesty damaging the Heyward family, Nadine coming back from her high school fantasy romance with Mike to a devastating reality where her husband Ed has taken up with Norma, Leo Johnson left shackled and perhaps fatally boobytrapped, and Audrey Horne, Pete Martell and Andrew Packard all perhaps succumbing to a bomb left at the Twin Peaks Savings & Loan by Thomas Eckhardt as a final act of revenge.

At the time, this episode was looked at by some as a kind of thumbing of the nose at the ABC network, or even at the viewers who had misunderstood and abandoned the series, but as Reflections: An Oral History of Twin Peaks reveals, the many dire cliffhangers in this episode were intended to convince the network to renew the series for one more season. The well-intentioned gambit didn’t pay off, and fans will have to wait a few more months to find out what happened to these characters, though some answers may be found (as well as a deeper mystery that may be explored in the series), such as the fates of Audrey Horne and Hank Jennings.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the final epispode of the original run!

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 28 - I hope it doesn’t hurt this bad in a week

Welcome back to the Who Killed Laura Podcast! Tonight we discus the penultimate episode of the original series. Miss Twin Peaks, aired as part of a two part season finale that ended up being a series finale for the next 25 years. The Final 2 episodes saw a 3 million viewers bump in the ratings to a total of 10.4 million on June 10th, 1991. There was a 6 week break between the airing of the finale and the the previous episode, enough time to generate a little extra buzz for the show. The first half of the finale was written by Barry Pullman and directed Tim Hunter

Scott and Chris discuss the Miss Twin Peaks pageant that, as speculated, includes most major female characters as well as the final stages of Windom Earle’s plans, Eckhardt’s mystery box, and Nadine’s delusions. We are in the home stretch and even though this episode aired on the same night as the finale, you’ll have to wait until the next Who Killed Laura Podcast to wrap up the original Television run of Twin Peaks. Of course, Scott and Chris will be back for Fire Walk with Me as well as the upcoming Showtime continuation and maybe even some special episodes on the various Peaks related material!

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 27 - A fish I am not particularly fond of

There are a lot of fish in Twin Peaks, just ask Pete Martell. In this episode, however, Agent Cooper mentions one he isn’t particularly fond of, the Red Herring. There have been plenty of those in town too. Scott and Chris are back to discuss the last episode before the two-part series (season) finale.

Titled The Path to the Black Lodge, and airing on April 18, 199, this episode was written by the main duo of Harley Peyton and Robert Engels and directed by star father Stephen Gyllenhaal. The ratings held to only a small drop of a half million viewers to 7.4 million this week.

There is a lot happening in this episode, but it starts with dead Ted Raimi, the Heavy Metal Youth. He was literally a Pawn in the game of life. We get some good background on Windom Earle and Project Blue Book. Also this episode has possibly the best costume in the Windom Earle Party City Halloween Superstore! Leo tries to stand up to Windom and Audrey says goodbye to John Justice Wheeler. More and more of our female characters are joining the Miss Twin Peaks pageant. Cooper can’t get his mind off of Annie and the Giant is trying to send him a message. And all the while, Andy is trying to crack the petroglyph from Owl Cave. We can’t wait to talk about it with you!

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 26 - Sexual Maturity and Super Powers

Do you have any super powers? Are you mature enough to use them for good? Scott and Chris may not have the most mature discussion on this episode of the Who Killed Laura Podcast. We talk about the 19th episode of Twin Peak’s second season Variations on Relations, originally airing on April 11, 1991. Written by the Mark Frost and frequent contributor Harley Peyton, the episode was directed by Jonathan Sanger who was a producer on the Elephant Man. The ratings this week fell from 9.2 million to 7.9 million viewers.

There is a lot of comedy and romance in this episode even as Windom Earle continues plotting his deadly chess game. The direction of Sanger adds some new transitions that we haven't’ seen before. Petroglyph images are shown and left to the viewer to decipher. Ted Raimi plays a Heavy Metal Youth. All this and much more. Let’s dive in!

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 25 - Sweetheart, My Socks Are On Fire

Welcome to another episode of the Who Killed Laura Podcast with Chris and Scott. It would be nice if this was Valentine’s Day rather than Halloween, as this is one of the more romantic episodes of the series, not to mention one of the funniest.

This episode is written by the frequent team of Harley Peyton and Robert Engels and is the third time Duwayne Dunham directs for the series. The title of the episode (which were given for European broadcast, unsure by whom) is “On the Wings of Love,” perhaps referring to the 1982 Jeffrey Osborne song, which hit #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary charts. 1982 was a time when it wasn’t uncommon to hear the instrument known as the vocoder on a hit song, and luckily Osborne had one.

The episode starts tying various plot threads off (James Hurley’s travels, Mike and Nadine’s May-December romance, Andy/Lucy/Dick) while other threads like the Black and White Lodges, Project Bluebook, Agent Cooper and Annie and Windom Earle’s Miss Twin Peaks revenge plot all start tying together.

The Who Killed Laura Podcast Ep 24 - A Plethora of Plaid

As we close in on the season 2 finale, Scott and Chris are back with the Who Killed Laura Podcast episode 24, A Plethora of Plaid, discussing the 17th instalment of season 2, Wounds and Scars. This episode originally aired on aired on March 28th, 1991, six weeks after the last episode. As usual, The guys have no idea why there was such a gap in the schedule. Whatever the reason, it helped the ratings as 1.4 million more viewers brought the total to 9.2 for the week. James Foley directed the episode and Lost Highway scribe Barry Pullman wrote it.

Following a judgemental Log Lady Intro, an optimistic Special Agent Dale Cooper is speaking into his microcassette recorder bringing Diane (and everyone else) up to speed following the 6 week break. Harry is still sad and the Windom Earle is still playing his deadly chess game while apparently using a Party City’s worth of disguises. Pete is popping up at all angles to keep the game at a stalemate. Annie arrives in town and Cooper likes the way she makes coffee. Eckhart’s assistante visits Catherine. Hank and Nadine may be through. There is a fundraiser to save the Pine Weasel at the Great Northern where the titular Plethora of Plaid is on display. All this and more this episode.
